Frequently Asked Questions
Why does my iPhone save images as WebP?
When you long-press and save an image from Safari, iOS saves it in the original format the website delivered — which is often WebP. iOS 16+ introduced a fix: go to Settings → Safari → Request Desktop Website → All Websites to force JPEG delivery, but this doesn't work for all sites.
Can I convert WebP to JPG on iPhone without an app?
Yes. Open this page in Safari on your iPhone, tap "Choose Files" and select your WebP image from Files or Photos. The converter runs in Safari — no app download needed.
Does the iPhone Files app support WebP?
The Files app can store and preview WebP files, but it cannot convert them. You need to either use a web-based converter or the Shortcuts app method.
Will the converted JPG save to my iPhone Camera Roll?
After conversion, tap "Download". Safari will save the JPG to your Downloads folder (Files app). From there, tap and hold the file → Share → Save to Photos to add it to your Camera Roll.
